In this latest downturn, we cut back staff to the minimum required to survive. Then the government battle over the debt ceiling drove the consumer market down even further. We?ve managed to stay in business, but the continued depression for the consumer has caused us to fall into debt that is unsustainable. We have put several million dollars into product development over recent years, but the need for customers to cut back on non-essentials has caused this investment to be lacking in returns. We have seen leisure activities like golf courses plunge in popularity, as funds for such recreation have dried up. It seems to be the same for hobby time investments. Our products are no longer inexpensive as they were in the 1930s-era Depression. The cost of manufacturing along with minimum production runs and long lead times has caused a lack of ability to continue as a sustainable entity. It?s no longer a business! It has been a pleasure to help our creative consumer base to enjoy their hobby and we have no regrets in doing so. Our business grew every year until the 2008 as the recession caused a shrinking of the mindset to stay active in our large-scale model train arena. We know that smaller scales have remained viable, but the higher cost of Large Scale trains and the space required to run them have not maintained their share of the market. Our airplane R/C portion of our business was lost when our patented frequency changer was lost to the 2.4Ghz portion of the marketplace, with no frequency compounds needed any longer. For 80 years, the Polk family has made a fair living in the Hobby industry. I can?t help but remember the scores of co-workers that have helped make this organization as special as it was. Thanks to them all, but notably: Gil Rose, B.M. Song, J.K. Kim, Sam Kimm, Tom Flynn, Cliff Crane, Charlie Binder, Marvin Binder, John and Sherry Shievdayal, Aixa Lebron, Joe Bamberger, David Newell, Walter Matuch, John Mikesh, Navin Shievdayal, Marguerite Hubert (Rose), Michael J. Vickey, Jonathan Polk, Scott Polk, Fred Polk, Irwin Polk, Nathan Polk, Maryann Polk Bob Calandra, George Adams, Michael Hauptmann and so many others, it would take a book to list them all. While I can?t list all the hundreds that were part of the team, they remain in my heart and mind. Our humble thanks to our loyal customers. Our apologies for not being able to keep this almost 80-year-old business, going. It?s a heartbreaker for us all. | Ja, es ist halt ein Hobby, das leider nicht mehr ganz so populär ist. Und wenn die Umsätze sinken und gleichzeitig die Schreie immer lauter werden, dass die Sachen so sauteuer sind, wird es auch weitehin Pleiten geben. Die Mentalität das Beste für wenig Geld zu bekommen greift leider immer mehr um sich. Eine Stereoanlage mit High-End-Klang gibt es auch nicht für eine paar Hundert Euro. 500 Euro für eine DASH-9 kann nicht zu viel sein. Die Retourkutschen kommen. Ich kann nur hoffen, dass irgendjemand Erbarmen hat und für uns die Aristocraft-Modelle am Leben erhalten wird. Reiner | |||||

| Hey Reiner, ob ?500 viel oder wenig sind hängt wohl stark mit dem monatlichen Einkommen zusammen - für so manchen sind das über 50%. Ist aber eine alte Leier, die ich nicht mehr aufspielen möchte. Zu 1:29-Modellen: vor einem Jahr hat Bachmann noch vehement verneint in diesen Maßstab einzusteigen. Schaut mal, was dieses Jahr als einzige (bisher) Triebfahrzeug Neuheit angekündigt wird. Eine Strab in 1:29. Ein Schelm, der Böses dabei denkt. Steht also zu Erwarten, dass Bachmann die entstehende Lücke füllen wird, evtl. als dritte Grossbahnreihe. Ob das nun von Aristo übernommene oder eigene Konstruktionen werden, bleibt abzuwarten. Gruss Heinz | |||||

| Hallo Heinz, ja, ich gebe dir schon recht. 500 Euro sind auch für mich viel Geld. Ich hätte das aber auch bei RD - Hobby für die DASH-9 ausgegeben. Immerhin habe ich darauf lange gespart. Dass die Lok dann nicht mehr verfügbar war, war halt für mich im Nachhinein ein Vorteil, da ich diese direkt in USA für 386 Euro inklusive aller Nebenkosten erworben habe. Und die war innerhalb acht Tagen bei mir. Ich habe vor ca 20 Jahren mal einen Leserbrief geschrieben. Der Bumerang wird zurück kommen. Alle Produktionen ins Ausland, die werden wohlhabender, Konsum wird dort steigen, alles wird auch bei uns teurer. Dass nun der chinesische Hersteller, bei dem so viele Modellbahnhersteller produzieren ließen, wohl alle vor die Tür gesetzt hat, kommt halt erschwerend hinzu. Kurzfristiges Denken hat noch nie funktioniert. Aber ich denke auch, dass wir nciht im Stich gelassen werden. Bachmann wird die Augen schon offen haben. Gruß Reiner | |||||

| Zum Trost gibt es doch noch USA - Trains, gleicher Maßstab und - jedenfals sehe ich das so - gleiche Qualität und ähnliche Preise. Oder hat USA - Trains evtl. die gleichen Probleme wie Aristocraft? Wer weiß etwas? | |||||

Was ich so von Charles Ro (Eigentümer USA-Trains) mitbekommen habe ist daß er teilweise die gleichen Probleme hat wie Aristo-Craft - starker Rückgang der Verkaufszahlen und mehr Forderungen des alten Chinesischen Herstellers, aber er hat einen Teil seiner Produktion an einen anderen Chinesischen Hersteller verlegt der flexibler ist und Charles Ro hat ja auch noch eins der größten und erfolgreichsten Modellbahn Versandgeschäfte in USA, http://www.charlesro.com/ USA-Trains hat in letzter Zeit auch ein paar Neiheiten auf den Markt gebracht und mehr werden in 2014 folgen - ausserdem hat AML (Teil von Accucraft) auch angefangen 1:29 Gartenbahn Produkte zu produzieren. | |||||
